# Audio Mixer

> A master bus and one strip per audio plate in the scene.

What appears in the mixer.

The Mixer dock shows the master bus and every audio-bearing plate in the scene. With none, it says so: add a video component and it shows up here.

| Control | Does |
| --- | --- |
| Fader | Linear gain. The readout is dBFS, with marks at 0, −6, −12, −24, −48 and −∞. |
| Mute | Silences that channel. |
| Solo | Silences every channel that is not soloed. Clear solo appears while any is active. |
| Master fader / mute | The bus out. |
| Reset | Master back to unity and unmuted. |

> **Plates are muted by default:** A video plate is silent unless it has been explicitly unmuted. That is the long-standing renderer default — graphics are not usually a sound source — so check the strip before assuming the file has no audio.
