What In, Run and Out mean.

| Phase | Clip kind | Behaviour |
| --- | --- | --- |
| In | in | One-shot. Brings the element on. |
| Run | run | The idle state. Loops when Loop as idle state is on. |
| Out | out | One-shot. Takes the element off. |
| — | emphasis | A one-shot accent played at any time: a score pop, a flash. |

An assignment binds a clip to a target in a phase, so the same target can have a different clip for coming on, sitting there, and going off. The rundown's Take and Take-out drive the In and Out phases.
