Opening a file from the Files dock opens it as a tab. Text files — .txt, .md, .csv, .json — open in an editor; everything else opens in a read-only viewer appropriate to its type.

- Edits save as you type. A .json file saves only while it parses, and Format pretty-prints it.
- Images, video, audio, PDFs and fonts open in a preview. Any other type shows its icon and size, with Open in browser.
- The tab is keyed by file name, so the same file never opens twice.
