A stinger is a clip that plays over Program while Preview and Program change places. The exchange is the one Cut makes, overlays included; it happens at the clip's cut point, when the clip covers the whole picture. Choose the page's Default stinger between Preview and Program, then press Stinger. Black stops a transition that is running.

Stingers, in the bar at the bottom of the console, opens the Transition library. Clips are kept with the page.

## Import a stinger

- MOV, WebM (VP8 or VP9), MP4, MKV, AVI, GIF, a PNG image, or a numbered PNG sequence. Several PNGs chosen together are sorted by file name and play at the sequence frame rate.
- Every clip is converted once to a lossless WebM that keeps its alpha.
- Up to 60 seconds a clip, 256 MB a file and 512 MB an import.
- A Glider stinger package (.json) brings the clip, its timing and its playback settings. A package made from a scene also carries that scene and its workflow: Restore source scene adds them to the page as new, hidden objects, and Program does not change.

## A stinger from a scene

Declare a scene workflow as a stinger: pick the Scene and the Workflow, then set the total duration, the cut point and when Out starts. Glider plays In, then Run when there is one, then Out at that time, and renders it frame by frame over transparency into a clip. Only the picture is rendered: the scene's sound and its live actions are not. The clip is a snapshot, so render it again after you change the scene. Rendering needs the desktop app.

## Playback settings

| Setting | Does |
| --- | --- |
| Name | The name shown in Default stinger. |
| Duration and cut point | How long the clip runs, and the millisecond at which the pictures change places. Set the cut point from the preview playhead and check the frame there. |
| Trim and speed | Shorten the source, and play it at 0.25× to 4×. |
| Fit | Contain, cover or stretch to the page's frame. |
| Mute and volume | The clip's own sound. |

Save the settings before you close the library.

## Export

| Format | Carries |
| --- | --- |
| MOV / ProRes 4444 | Alpha, and 24-bit PCM sound at 48 kHz. |
| WebM / VP9 | Alpha, and Opus sound at 48 kHz. |
| MP4 / H.264 | The clip over black (no alpha), and AAC sound at 48 kHz. |
| Glider package | The clip, its playback settings, and the source scene when there is one. |
| Timing file | Duration and cut point, in milliseconds and in frames, for another switcher. |

Export settings (format, size, frame rate, sound, quality) are saved with the page. Trim, speed, fit and volume are baked into an exported video; the cut point stays on that video's own clock.

> **A clean stinger:** The first and last frames should be transparent, and the clip should cover the whole picture at the cut point. A container with alpha cannot add transparency the source does not have. Match the export's size and frame rate to the switcher that will play it.

> **ffmpeg is required:** Import, rendering and export use the ffmpeg set in Settings › Outputs. Clips are stored on the Glider machine, under data/stingers. Removing a stinger from the library does not delete its clip, so other pages that use it keep working.
