Easing is a free text field, normalised before it reaches the browser's animation API — which throws on anything that is not a valid CSS easing function, and one throw would kill the whole play call.

| You can write | It becomes |
| --- | --- |
| linear, ease, ease-in, ease-out, ease-in-out, step-start, step-end | Itself. |
| easeOut, ease_out, EASE OUT, easeInOutQuad | The nearest CSS keyword — ease-out, ease-in-out, and so on. |
| cubic-bezier(a, b, c, d) | Itself, if the x coordinates are within 0–1. y may overshoot: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0.9, 0.25, 1.25) lands past the target and settles back. |
| steps(n) or steps(n, position) | Itself, with a valid jump position (jump-start, jump-end, jump-none, jump-both). steps(10, jump-none) ticks a counter through ten visible values. |
| Anything unrecognised | Dropped — the clip's default easing is used instead. |
